About the Workshop
It’s a riso potluck! Bring the memory of a dish, snack, flavor or ingredient that resonates with you to honor during our workshop. After sharing, collaging, crafting, giggling, printing and maybe even snacking as a group, you’ll walk away with a unique and collaborative pack of bound recipe cards!
In this workshop we will explore the intersection of community and risograph printing in collaborative making! As a group, we’ll share what our chosen dish means to us and explore the possibilities of translating it visually into collage. As we experiment with cut paper, each participant will focus on creating a two color recipe card composition. As a group, we’ll choose two colors to risograph print our zine, create a communal cover, and learn how to coil bind it all together.
Walk away with a coil bound, ten page two-color risograph zine full of meaningful and handmade recipe cards from our community!
Supplies Needed
We’ll supply all collage materials you may need, but if you have any specific ephemera or materials that you would like to use specifically for your recipe card, please bring them!

Accessibility & Mask Policies
We want our workshops to be as accessible as possible! Outlet is a ground-floor space with a single-stall ADA accessible bathroom. You can find more information about wheelchair access, parking, transit options, and more on our accessibility page. If there’s any way we can make your visit feel more comfortable or safe please let us know.
In an effort to keep our classes accessible and to keep our most vulnerable community members safe we require masks in our space for all group workshops and indoor events. We offer both masked and mask optional appointments during our open hours.
About Outlet
Outlet is a risograph print shop, community maker space, and the studio of Kate Bingaman-Burt and Leland Vaughan. We host workshops, pop-up events, and other projects and offer an array of services from printing, button making, binding, and more! We're the home of a zine library and more art supplies, making tools, and collage materials than we know what to do with. We also rent our space and offer in-person open hours where folks can print, make buttons, and hang out. Outlet is based out of Portland, Oregon and was founded in 2017.
About the Instructor
Zab Shavrick (they/them) is a local artist, illustrator and graphic designer interested in the intersection of design and sustainable thinking. While they can’t seem to stick to one medium, they have a love for printmaking, textiles, tattoo, watercolor and natural pigments, often rooted in abstraction and the use of color. In addition to working at Outlet, Zab is the in-house designer at local B & B Sosta House and a freelance storyteller for small businesses around the world.
