Outlet is a studio & press that specializes in risograph printing & teaching workshops on this cool printmaking tool.

Outlet is home to 3 functional RISOs (and 1 who is retired). We call them the RISO Sisters! Barbara (our RC6300 born in 1993) doesn’t print anymore, but she’s our mascot and part of our very unofficial risograph museum. Our 3 working machines are Janet (our RZ590 born in 2007), Corita (our RZ390 born in 2005), and Lil’ Tina (our EZ220 born in 2009) and we keep them printing nonstop!

What the heck is a risograph? The risograph is a stencil duplicator that fuses the look and process of screenprinting with the convenience of an office copier (but more fun, more inky and with lots of texture). It uses actual inks (not toner) that come in vivid colors that other printers can’t produce. Riso provides a cheap and easy method for reproducing work in large quantities like posters, buttons, prints and zines. It’s a beautiful and versatile medium for illustrators,  designers, comics artists, photographers, writers, and more!

You can take one of our Riso Basics workshops to learn more!

There are two ways to print with us!

Open Hours Printing

Come in and print in person with one of our knowledgable studio assistants*!

You bring your files, your paper (or you can purchase from our selection here—we’ve got a ton of different papers), and your questions and chat with our staff to bring your print projects to life. You can be as hands-on or hands-off with the process during your appointment as you like.

Make your open hour appointment whatever you want it to be! Need to print? Great! Want to just look at our available inks and papers? That’s cool! Need to make some buttons or trim something down? Awesome! You can select the appointment that best suits your needs. Open hour appointments can also take advantage of our other equipment and art and collage supplies.

*These hours are limited to people who have taken our Riso Basics workshops (either in person or online).

Online Printing Orders

Please note: We are keeping busy with our in-person printing and workshops and are currently only accepting online orders on a case-by-case basis. Thank you for your understanding!

Bring your riso dreams to life by printing with us remotely! Fill out a print or zine quote request form, pick your inks and papers, and send us your files. We do the rest!

Our talented and knowledgable studio assistants will print your projects with care in order to get you the best outcome possible (we’ve been doing this for awhile and know all the tricks). We’re happy to chat about file setup and picking inks/papers and can make recommendations based on our experience.

The turnaround for remote printing is generally a little longer than open hours printing (where your printing is done while you wait). This extra time allows for drying and more attention to detail, and is especially recommended for large print and zine orders. We offer free local pick-up and can ship anywhere in the US.

Pricing

Our pricing is calculated based on many different factors such as ink used, stencils made, paper, labor, and more.

We’re happy to get you a quote or you can check here for some price estimates for common projects! Please note that pricing is affected by whether you are printing with us remotely, or in person during our open hours.

These prices are all estimates and may vary depending on the scope of your project. Zine prices in particular can really vary depending on the number of pages in your book and the number of inks you’re using.
